Brake Pad maintenance is in an important part of car maintenance.. Brake work is our second largest line of work next to annual car servicing. We also overhaul brake calipers, drain and replace brake fluid and replace brake calipers, servos and decayed or damaged brake lines. Our pricing for brake work is extremely competitive, especially considering we use only premium brake parts. Following the success of our fixed price car service model we have now introduced fixed price brake pads for your car.

Brake pads typically last 25,000km to 35,000km depending on the amount of braking you do. The rear brakes last longer because they do not have as much force applied to them, however because they are not used as intensely as the front brakes they can become stiff over time and the brake caliper can require servicing.
Following on the success of our fixed price car service model, we have introduced fixed price brake pad replacement: If you would like to book now please click here
| Engine Size | Rear Pads (Shoes) | Front Pads | ||

Brake discs last two to three times longer than brake pads but eventually the brake pad wears into the brake disc
We can give you an exact price in advance and will clearly explain what work is being carried out. Please feel free to ask us any questions.
Brake calipers press the brake pad against the disc. They typically don't give a lot of trouble but on older cars the rear calipers can seize up over time. To learn more about how calipers work visit our learning section
Brakes are a relatively simple affair and if it sounds complicated make sure you tell us we are not doing a good job of explaining it !
Each wheel has a brake disc attached to it. Each disc has brake pads on either side. When you press your foot on the brake pedal, it forces the brake pads to press either side of the brake disc.
The brake pads are held in place by what is called a brake caliper. The caliper pushes the brake pad against the disc when hydraulic fluid is forced into it. when you press the brake pedal you are forcing this fluid into the caliper and in turn pushing the pads against the disc and hey presto the car stops !
CarDock overhauled the entire brake system on my 1996 VW Golf and ensured that I passed the NCT and can get many more years motoring out of my loyal motor. R. Simpson
Below is a chart that details the typical car service interval of brake parts. don't be surprised if you need to replace brake pads every 2 years and discs when the car is 4 or 5 years old.
Brake Part |
Service Interval |
|
|---|---|---|
| Front Brake Pads | Every 20,000 to 30,000 km | |
| Rear Brake Pads | Every 30,000 to 50,000 km | |
| Brake Discs | Every 70,000 to 120,000 km | |
| Brake Fluid Change | Every second service | |
| Hand Brake Adjustment | Every Service |
In addition to this standard car service work, we get quite a number of cars who fail the NCT on insufficient or uneven braking at the back wheels. This is due to seized calipers (or drum brakes) or seized brake distribution mechanisms. By maintaining brake pad and disc you ensure your car is safe.
